Derby Winner

Some friends had a Kentucky Derby party. We all bet on horses. Of course, most of the horses I bet on (actually, 4) had names that referred to animals. "Animal Kingdom" was a surprise winner! I bet $5 on him to Show and ended up winning about $40. I just have to go to OTB to get the money. I told Mike it makes me nervous--OTB seems like a scuzzy place, since I've never set foot in one. I'm sure it isn't. But I'm still going to ask him to get the money for me.

I had to watch the race at work, between making phone calls and filling out forms. I went to the party after my job and the hostess (Roz) was nice enough to make me dinner. Since I'm not only healing from root canal and having a tooth pulled, as well as having a new broken crown on the opposite side (it never rains but it pours) I could not enjoy the steaks Mike brought. But I love hot dogs and the chicken franks were yummy. So was the ice cream cake we brought from John 's store. He made it up shaped like a horseshoe and it had chocolate peanut butter chunk ice cream in it.

We were outside and it was way too cold, but it was still a very nice time.

Blecch: root canal

Last week I had a broken crown removed. It was under the gum and a big production. It also, I think, jostled the broken tooth next to it and gave me a lot of pain. Well, more a dull roar I could control with Tylenol. I went back to the dentist (who is separate from the guy who yanks teeth) and he said, 'yep, you need a root canal.'

Fun, fun, fun.

I should be used to this, as it is roughly my 10th root canal. But I'm happy to have both of these teeth 'taken care of,' since it's been on my to-do list foreeevvvver.

The RC wasn't bad at all, at least compared to the past. It was the Novocaine shots that killed me. And the fact the whole procedure took almost an hour. Now I'm really sore all across my lower right jaw.

Eating on one side of my mouth is annoying, especially since I'm also missing a tooth over there and have yet another broken crown.

Easter 2011

Everyone says Nicky is going "Amish" with that scruffy beard.
Mike is amused.
I made a little Easter basket for John Joseph with bubbles and wands.
Eric's Easter rabbit is "Dude, da Bunny." Katherine says it is ghetto--but funny!
Noreen has been working hard!
Michael plays on his phone.
James looking 'serious.'

We went to John and Noreen's for Easter dinner. As usual, the food was great: leg of lamb, roast beef and lasagna, as well as sides. And cheese cake, Jell-O and strawberries with whipped cream for dessert.

Around my yard these days

Fall might be my favorite season, but spring flowers are soooooo pretty!

Lunch with a friend

Sue W and I met for a nice lunch at a Greek restaurant today. I never get Greek food, though. Today I had skirt steak.

We went to Michael's after and I got some yarn and a few other things. Like I need any more yarn!

We're having Slider Casserole for dinner. Nicky really likes this so I planned it for a night he's home for dinner. I think James might be in for dinner, too. He went to work early today. Nick gets out at 6.

Yesterday, Mike took Nick and me to get new cell phones. I have a nice new one that isn't fancy, but it seems to have better volume than the old one. Nick got a Droid. Obviously, he paid for it. Mike was surprised I paid for mine (the plan is under his name) but I have some money from the State tax refund to play with.

There are a lot of daffodils in bloom outside, and some hyacinths. It's all so pretty!

Spring Stuff

Mike and I did some outdoor work yesterday. Okay, he did a LOT of work and I did a little. I finally got some potting soil into a container and added some lettuce seeds. Mike did a ton of cleaning up around the yard, plus he washed my car for me. And even did the Armor-all part! It looks goooood. Oh, and he gassed it up for me, too. Over 30 dollars (I paid that, he added extra), which makes me glad I don't drive very far.

On Friday night we went to the local diner. I was pretty flush for money (having two paychecks doubled up) and suggested trying a new place. But...suddenly I got an urge for a really good hamburger. Nobody does burgers like a diner. So we went to a favorite place and that's what I got. He tried some Greek thing. Souvlaki, I think? And he ate all of the spanoka-whatever appetizer. I'm not a big fan of spinach.

After the diner we headed to "Bob's" to look for a recliner for me. Why are they all so damned BIG????? I don't want to feel like a kid sitting in daddy's chair. The Bob-O-Pedic was very comfortable, but it was a swivel chair and I felt out of control in it. And I don't like when my feet can't touch the ground when the chair is closed.

I did really like one smaller leather recliner. It was probably a hundred more than I want to spend, but the kids still owe me a Christmas gift (which was supposed to be a chair--I just take forever to pick things out) so we can split that. I plan to look a little further but I might just end up with that chair. Maybe the cats won't try to use leather as a scratching post.

My life is very uneventful these days.

Just the way I like it.

Colds

Mike's got my cold now. He treated me to a haircut and color last night, as he does every six weeks. We do this at a friend's house. It was also the husband's birthday so I treated everyone to Chinese takeout for dinner. It's fun when you have several people eating because you order different things and get to try each other's. I had Mai Fun for the first time last night. It's very spice but I could get into having it again. Mike had pepper steak and I had moo shu pork.

I have work later today. Wish I didn't. I'm tired. Still talking funny from the cold and coughing too much.
